It is strange indeed that Cassirer completely ignores the time after Goethe and Hegel here: Not a word on Romanticism, the history of political thinking in the 19th century, the ground-breaking efforts by Marx, Kierkegaard, or Nietzsche, hermeneutics and ”Lebensphilosophie”.
